• Prakasam district was constituted on 02-02-1979 and Ongole Town is the District Head quarters and formed as Municipality. During the year 2012, Ongole town became Municipal Corporation consisting surrounding villages extended to 25 square Kilo-meters. The Jurisdiction is divided into three Police Stations Viz., Ongole I Town, Ongole II Town and Taluk PS Police Stations. Old bypass (NH-16) is passing through in Ongole Town.
• Ongole Traffic PS was inaugurated on 01-06-1997 with Sanctioned Strength of 1-SI, 3-ASIs, 4-HCs, 20- PCs as per G.O. Ms. No. 538/Home/86 and started functioning in a Small Room by the side of old OngoleTaluk PS. At present Traffic PS is situated in Gaddalagunta beside of Consumer Court in a Pucca Building constructed by AP Housing Board Corporation which was opened on 11-02-2009. The PS is spacious consisting of 1 Room for CI, Main hall, SIs Room, 1 Bell of Arm, 2 lock ups both for male and female for running Traffic PS, with compound wall around the building with a main gate. During Nov, 2015 the CI post is suppressed and Traffic PS was up graded and Dy.S.P. was posted.
• Initially the Traffic PS was equipped with Telephone, VHF set, 1 Computer & 1 Printer. Later 4 Computers along with two printers were sanctioned to Traffic PS during, 2014, Out of 4 computers, 2 computers were given to I.T. Core Section.
Bapuji Market complex, Trunk road, Flower Bazar centre and Gandhi road are the main business centres. On either sides of Trunk road i.e. Masthan Darga centre to Miriyalapalem centre one side two wheeler parking is implemented and declared as NO PARKING ZONE for four wheelers providing No parking boards • The vehicular population of Ongole Town is 10,000 autos, 5000 Lorries, 500 Private School Buses, 3000 Tractors and 50,000 Motor cycle are running in Ongole Town. The main Traffic runs on Trunk road, Kurnool road, Anjaiah road and VIP road. There is no parallel road for Kurnool road to regulate Traffic in Ongole Town. The vehicles passing through NH 5 are about 10,000 per day.
• Bapuji Market complex, Trunk road, Flower Bazaar centre, Kurnool Road, Anjaiah Road, M.M Road, Old Guntur Road, KP Bus stand, Bandlamitta Centre, PrathivariVeedhi and Gandhi road are the main business centres and Major Hospitals are located on SundaraiahBhavan Road and 60 Feet Road which are crowded with purchasers and other general public who are passing through these roads., The width of Trunk road is 40 feet. On either sides of Trunk road i.e. MasthanDarga centre to Miriyalapalem centre are located. one side parking is also being implemented and declared as ‘NO PARKING ZONE’ for providing “No parking boards”.
• In the church centre, the monuments of Late Sri Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, Ex. Chief Minister of AP, Late Mother Theresa and Late Addanki Solomon Carey Wesley, Chief Security Officer of Late Chief Minister Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and Sri Luis Brailee founder of breilee sculpture are situated.
• On the southern side of the Baptist Church, PrakasamBhavan is situated. In PrakasamBhavan, the offices of Collector and District Magistrate, Education Department, Prohibition and Excise Department, District Treasury Office, Panchayati Raj Office, Medical and Health and other offices are located. On the Western side i.e. in opposite direction, office of the Revenue Divisional Officer and other shopping complex is situated. On the eastern side, Head Post office and Telephone exchange are located.
• In and around of Ongole town a good number of educational institutions are located i.e. Girinadh Medical College and NIMRA Medical College near Yedugundlapadu village now it was shifted to Vijayawada. KIMS Hospital is located at North side of NH-16 Near Market Yard, RIMS/GGH Hospital and Medical College is located at Trunk road, Ramesh Sangamitra Hospital, Rao& Naidu Engineering College, presently IIIT is running in this Engineering college, near South bye-pass Road, RISE and PACE Engineering colleges are located near Pellur village, QIS Engineering college is located on Vengamukkalapalem Road and SSN Engineering Colleges is located Kurnool road near YendluruDonka. Industrial estate, Growth Centre, Raghuram Cotton Mill and Tobacco Companies (MahiAgros) are also located on NH-16 Road. Vehicle Show Rooms, Hotels are existed on either sides of NH-16 near Throvagunta. Apart from above colleges, 18 Intermediate and Degree colleges and 11 Nursing Schools are located in Ongole town. There are 10 Cinema theatres. Due to above Colleges and Schools, number of buses are plying through Ongole town carrying students to their colleges and schools, resulting of which there is heavy vehicular traffic at Fly over, Mangamur road junction, RTC centre, Addanki bus stand, MasthanDarga Centre, Church Centre, Nellore bus stand and South Bye-pass.
• There is a shopping complex called as “BAPUJI MARKET COMPLEX”. In that Complex as many as 500 Wholesale and Retail shops besides Readymade and other cloth shops are existing. Every day nearly 50 number of Lorries are coming to this complex from various destinations carrying essential commodities and other articles. Similarly nearly 500 number of autos are moving from Market complex carrying commodities to near by villages. Apart from the above near 4000 autos are moving in Ongole town carrying passengers from Rail way Station, RTC bus stand and other important centre and localities of Ongole town.
• There are 45 Traffic points are identified in Ongole Town which included (10) double shift points where men will be posted in two shifts covering the duties from 7 am to 12-30 A.N & 5.30 pm to 9 pm and 12 A.N to 6 pm. 7 AM to 9.30 PM, viz. (1) Flower Bazaar (2) Church centre (3) Gandhi Road (4) RTC bus stand out gate (5) RTC bus stand in gate (6) Flyover/ Udipi hotel centre (7) Mangamur Road junction (8) North Bypass Junction (9) South Bypass Junction and (10) Kothapatnam bus stand centre. The traffic men will be on Traffic duty from 7 am to 12-30 A.N again from 5.30 pm to 9 pm.
• Following steps have been made for the better Traffic regulation in Ongole town. Two roads are implemented as one way road for effective Traffic regulation in Ongole town i.e. (1) MasthanDarga to Kothapatnam bus stand (2) MasthanDargah to Miriyalapalem road. 13 Traffic umbrellas were arranged i.e. at Mungamur road junction, Fly over junction, Church point, South Bye pass junction, MasthanDarga point, Jayaram talkies centre, RTC bus stand in gate junction, RTC Out gate junction, North bye pass junction, Addanki Bus stand junction, Kothapatnam bus stand centre, Central Cafe junction, CVN Reading room junction.
• 10 Nos of Breath analyzers were sanctioned and supplied to Traffic PS to conduct effective drunken driving and book cases. Out of 10 breath analyzers, 3 breath analyzers were issued by DPO/RI (AR) stores. Remaining 7 are supplied by Ongole Municipal Corporation. Among the 7 breath analyzers, One breath analyzer was supplied to Chirala Sub-division. Two breath analyzers were given to Road Safety highway patrolling vehicles. Among the 4 breath analyzers needs repairs and 3 are in working condition.
• About 100 sign board were arranged to educate the people regarding Traffic Rules and offences. Traffic awareness programmes are conducted to all Auto and Taxi drivers, Parcel Service Llorry drivers, College/School bus drivers, RTC drivers, Push cart workers and School children in Ongole town by briefing them Rules and Regulations of MV Act and MV Rules and Road Safety.
• Traffic flow is heavy on Trunk Road and Kurnool road. Incoming RTC buses to the RTC bus stand from Markapur, Podili, Guntur, Vijayawada and Nellore side are coming from Kurnool road and going RTC Depot.
• In Ongole town CC cameras were installed in the following places i.e.(1) MM Road, (2) Bye pass fly over,(3) RTC Bus stand centre, (4) Addanki Bus stand centre MSR statue, (5) Addanki bus stand centre NTR statue, (6) MasthanDarga centre, (7) Kothapatnam bus stand, (8) Rajiv Gandhi state, (9) SBI Main Branch,(10) Church Centre, (11) Hotel Kolas,(12) Nellore bus stand, (13) RatnaMahal centre,(14) Sai Baba temple and (15) South Bypass. One ways are being implemented at MasthanDarga, Flower Bazar, Gandhi Road, Pathivariveedhi, Kanyakaparameswaritemple street etc. Electrical signals are arranged temporarily at Mangamur road junction to facilitate free flow of vehicular traffic. Further permanent electrical signal lights were arranged at RTC Out gate centre and Church centre by Municipal authorities. Solar signal lights were arranged at RTC out gate centre, Mangamur road junction and Church centre by Municipal authorities to facilitate free flow of vehicular traffic. Recently Mangamur road junction traffic point has renovated and glasses were arranged around the traffic point to protect traffic personnel from vehicular pollution.
• The Jurisdiction of Ongole town is divided into 4 Sectors. To each sector 1 RSI/SI is the in-charge assisted by 4 Mobile parties. So far 4708 owner-cum-driver identity cards and Traffic Police Numbers were issued with instructions to keep the same in auto behind driver seat which can visible to the passengers travelling in the auto. 8 Motor cycles are for mobile patrolling in Ongole Town. Out of 8 motor cycles, 2 are on road and 6 are on off road.
• To have control over the illegal movements of the auto drivers and to get success our main moto i.e. Safety, Protection and Service also to give protection and safety to women passengers, Traffic booth was constructed in Ongole Railway station premises and it was functioning with 1 HC and 2 PCs. In these aspect, to prevent all illegal activities of the auto drivers to keep a keen watch on the auto drivers and on their movements, CC cameras were installed outside of the Railway Station and also a register is being maintained to note down the passenger details including the name and addresses of plying auto drivers.
• Cement dividers were arranged at MasthanDargah centre to Old market junction to segregate bottle neck. Similarly cement dividers were arranged at fly over junction, Church centre and at RTC out gate point with a view to regulate free flow of Traffic.
• Speed breakers and stoppers (zig-zag) are arranged at South bye pass and North bye pass. Speed breakers were arranged at Rajiv Nagar junction, MSR Statue near railway station and PVR School area. Proposals were sent to Municipal Commissioner, Ongole Corporation with a request to arrange Cement dividers at Church centre (opp. To Head post office), MSR statue centre, Railway Station centre, DevuduCheruvu junction, CVN reading room junction, AB Stand, RTC Out gate towards New Market, Anjaiah road, PVR School, R.R.Tank for free flow vehicular traffic in Ongole Corporation.
